Individual/Personal Counselling

Through talk therapy you can find greater clarity to understand yourself and those around you.

As humans we use communication to connect with others and to make sense of our thoughts and feelings.  Unfortunately we don’t always feel comfortable to talk to people in our lives, because they are emotionally involved with us.  

Individual counselling allows you to speak to someone in confidence one-on-one.  We provide a safe, caring and non-judgemental environment to explore your feelings, behaviours and belief systems.  Counselling allows you to experience growth during challenging parts of life.  

Individual counselling can help one deal with many personal topics in life such as anger, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, marriage and relationship challenges, parenting problems, school difficulties, career changes and stress.

Couples Counselling

Disarming conflicting verbal communication; increasing intimacy, respect, and affection

With couples counselling we use well researched approaches to help with developing healthier couples relationships.

The Gottman Method

The Gottman Method is an approach to couples therapy that includes a thorough assessment of the couple’s relationship and integrates research-based interventions based on the Sound Relationship House Theory.

The goals of Gottman Method Couples Therapy are to disarm conflicting verbal communication; increase intimacy, respect, and affection; remove barriers that create a feeling of stagnancy; and create a heightened sense of empathy and understanding within the context of the relationship. Emotionally Focused Therapy

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is a type of short-term therapy that is used to improve attachment and bonding in adult relationships. This approach to couples therapy was developed by doctors Sue Johnson and Les Greenberg in the 1980s and is rooted in research on love as an attachment bond. EFT uses attachment as a map to understand dysfunctional relationship patterns. When we feel safely connected to our partners we are healthier and happier.  Counsellors will use EFT as a map to help couples build healthier attachments in their relationships.

Bowen Systems Therapy

A Bowen family systems approach to counselling would invite individuals to take a broader view of their situation and get at the root of their problems. It would involve identifying any dysfunctional patterns that govern their relationships, whether it is with family, friends or coworkers. The goal is to help individuals find more thoughtful ways to direct their own lives, by guiding them to choose healthier ways of relating to others and respond more effectively to situations.

Trauma Counselling

Working with a therapist or therapy that is trauma-focused or trauma-informed.

Trauma is our response to a deeply distressing or very disturbing event that overwhelms our ability to cope. Trauma is associated with feelings of helplessness,  it can effect our ability to feel a full range of feelings and experiences and affect how we feel about ourselves negatively.  

Not every traumatic situation leads to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.  Sometimes people can develop Acute Stress Disorder, where they have similar symptoms to PTSD initially but it disappears in a few weeks.  Individuals experiencing trauma benefit from working with a therapist or therapy that is trauma-focused or trauma-informed. Most trauma-informed therapists will employ a combination of interventions and modalities.

Treatment might involve;
Mindfulness-based stress reduction, EMDR, Emotional Freedom technique(EFT), Acceptance and Commitment therapy(ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy(DBT), Cognitive Behavioural approaches(CBT) and Client centered approaches

Services and Fees

Due to COVID-19 appointments will be available virtually. In-person appointments will also be available.

The regular fee for counselling is $140- $150.00 per 50-minute session, 10 minutes will be used for administration.

Couples sessions are $160.00 per regular session.

GST has been included in all fees and a $10.00 Student Discount is available on all regular counselling fees.
